Damonn
(Military Aristocracy)
The Damonnii military system forms both the culture
and government of the peoples of Lake Damonn.
Military
Structure

The basic military unit is the phalanx of 36
spearmen divided into 3 files of 12. These are men

and Peroii dukes bear the double golden bracer.
The Damonnii have
two kings at all times. Only one king takes the
field at any given time while the other remains in defense
of Arraat. The kings also decide all matters of law
unless they cannot agree at which point it falls to the
Templar-general.

Issi
(City-States)
Loose collection of principalities governed by a ruling
council. The Prince's Council decide broad matters
of law for the entire land, while the Princes rule
absolutely over their cities. The House of Earls
consists of all the major landed nobles. Six
of ten must be present for the house to issue a
ruling, but when they do the Earl-delegate, the only
Issi Duke, may vote on the Prince's Council. The
Duke's vote is counted twice. Once for the Earls and
once for the people whom they represent. Of course,
the Earls in truth only care for themselves.
In times of war the council will appoint a High Prince
who serves until the second occurrence of the High Penitence
thereafter.
Military
Structure
The entire Issi
military system is based around the concept of Captaincy.
Only Captains can command more than 100 men. All
nobles and knights are captains. A commoner can be
awarded a Writ of Captaincy by any noble of the rank of
Earl or higher. The writ can be earned through military
service or simple bought for around 1000 pieces of gold.
Platoon:
Composed of five squads (25 men) of 5 men each the Platoon
is commanded by a sergeant. Each squad is often
commanded by a corporal.
Company:
Composed of four platoons (25 men) commanded by a captain
or a lieutenant whom he appoints from amongst the
sergeants.
Battalion:
Five companies (500 men) commanded by a
captain.
Regiment:
Two battalions (1,000 men) led by a major. This is
the highest command that a commoner can hold.
Division
Five Regiments (5,000 men) led by a knight. Units of
this size or greater can only be led by nobles.
Army:
Two divisions (10,000 men) led by an earl or a
knight-colonel.
Military
Rank
Trooper (1st level warriors): Almost all Issi warriors are horse soldiers
armed with spatha and light lances protected by bezanted
mail, small naseled helms, and heaters.
Corporal:
Usually appointed by the sergeant or other
ranking officer, corporals do not bear any symbol of
rank. Generally the toughest or most experienced
amongst the troopers.
Sergeant
(2nd level warrior): The mark of a sergeant is
a leather baldric. Anyone one who can afford to
equip and/or pay troops can appoint himself a sergeant or
if part of an organized larger unit is appointed by the
captain. A sergeant cannot command more than two
platoons (50 men) according to the Law of Captaincy.
Lieutenant:
A commoner may only be appointed to the rank
of lieutenant by a captain and then must be operating
directly under the captains authority. Under these
circumstances a lieutenant may command a company (100) of
men. A silver boss marks the center of a
lieutenant's baldric. If the soldier leaves the
captain's service he is reduced to a sergeant.
Captain
(3rd level warrior): The
principle mark of a captain is a golden boss and the
authority to command a battalion strength unit. One
can only achieve the rank of captain by acquiring a Writ
of Captaincy, which is issue for life by a noble of the
rank of Earl or higher.
Major:
This is the highest rank that can be achieved
by a commoner. A major, similar to a lieutenant, may
only be appointed by and must be in the direct service of
a knight. Under which circumstance he may command a
single regimental unit. In addition to the gold boss
of a captain the major additionally bears a silver boss on
his baldric.

rank. A knight-colonel may only be appointed by a
Marshall and must be in direct service under which conditions
he may command an army (two divisions).

knight possessed of sufficient demesne must petition his
Prince to be so elevated and then is entitled to command
an army (two divisions). On so ennobled the title is
hereditary.

rank. A knight-marshal may only be appointed by his
Prince and must be in direct service under which conditions
he may command an unlimited number of troops as an extension
of the Prince's will.
